UBC Chapter of Psi Chi

psichi.psych.ubc.ca

Psi Chi is the International Honour Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Membership is open to graduates and undergraduates who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honour Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS). Psi Chi’s sister honour society is Psi Beta, the national honour society in psychology for community and junior colleges. There were two driving forces that motivated the creation of our chapter: 1) To create a special mode of recognition for students with distinguished academic careers at UBC in Psychology or a closely related discipline (e.g., Cognitive Systems, Integrated Science). Psi Chi only accepts students with a GPA in the top 35% of our university. We believe that achieving this high standard of excellence should be recognized and celebrated. 2) To complement the extracurricular opportunities and awards already available at the departmental, faculty, and university levels. More specifically, 100% of the funds we generate from membership dues are designated to fund undergraduate awards and undergraduate-driven initiatives.
