BIA Innovator Campus CLG was established in 2017 to stimulate regional regeneration by enhancing the strength and well-being of our agri-food sector through developing key infrastructure and knowledge resources, supporting start up and growing food businesses, creating employment opportunities, encouraging investment and attraction of new food businesses to the area. Galway County Council, Teagasc, Athenry Community Council, Local Enterprise Office, Western Development Commission, Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board and SCCUL are the founding partners of BIA Innovator Campus CLG and are committed to investment in a food innovation project that will transform the food entrepreneurship landscape in the West of Ireland. It has 4 key themes:- a) Food innovation and entrepreneurship - BIA Innovator Campus CLG will be the first food infrastructure project in Ireland to have multi food sector support at one location, including key specialisms in meat, dairy, prepared consumer foods & seafood and a dynamic and supportive learning environment; b) Culinary education and upskilling in an immersive learning environment; c) Experiential food tourism; d) Rural development and community rejuvenation. To open later in 2021, the project addresses a seismic need for regional food workspace infrastructure by realising a dynamic food and drink innovation and incubation centre of scale, 2301 square metres (23,767 sq. ft.), with the creation of 360 jobs within 3 years over 40+ businesses and which will see 2,400 individuals receive training, development and support from the founding partners and wider stakeholders. It is a unique infrastructure enabler with far reaching innovation ecosystem benefits in the inimitable and compelling location of Teagasc, Athenry, Co. Galway.
