Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC

www.avondalepresbychurch.org

We are a community of people eager to grow our faith spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. We grapple with God’s Word, try to understand God’s plans for our lives, find comfort in God’s grace, and celebrate the joy of God’s love. We recognize that close relationships can nudge and encourage faith, so we seek to know each other, not only by our names, but by the different gifts and talents behind them. We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and believe that we’re made whole through the grace of Jesus Christ. We welcome all who want to deepen their faith or are curious about Christianity. AVONDALE VISION STATEMENT: - Create close relationships to support a dynamic faith - Not only serve our neighbors but know them personally - Prepare the hearts of children and families to abide in Christ - Reduce economic inequities by breaking down barriers to education - Develop and demonstrate a sustaining faith HISTORY OF AVONDALE: In 1944, local Presbyterian leaders decided that the growing Charlotte community needed another church. They selected a site at the edge of town. World War II was ending and materials were scarce, so W.H. Belk, the founder of the department store chain, agreed to donate materials from an abandoned schoolhouse near Waxhaw. A small chapel was built and services began in 1945 with 52 members. The name “Avondale” was chosen because at the time, the church sat on Avondale Avenue. It’s now known as Park Road. Avondale has grown a lot since then, but that same chapel is still a vital part of our campus. We continue to be a church with a caring and vibrant ministry to each other and to those beyond our campus. Whenever we gather together to worship, serve, or study, we encounter the risen Christ in each other.
