The Târgu-Mureş Theatre, known as one of the best artistic companies of Romania counts more than 60 years of existence. The theatre was located in the building of the Cultural Palace from 1946 till 1973. The present theater’s building, an eloquent proof of the consideration art is having in Romania, was inaugurated on October 1973. The project of the theatre was achieved by the architect Constantin Săvescu from Bucharest, for this creation being rewarded with “The Architects’ Association’s Award” for 1973. Aspasia Burduja artist from Bucharest conceived the tapestry of the main lobby, of an unequalled artistic value. Owing to its prodigious activity, emphasized along the years by a valuable repertoire, by numerous distinctions acquired at various theatrical festivals and for its public success, in 1978 to the Theatre of Târgu Mureş was conferred the name of National Theatre. Artistically specific: It is a repertory theatre, being the home of two companies, Romanian and Hungarian. It is endowed with a main house of 599 seats, a studio house of 100 seats, 7 workshops, and cabins for the actors, rehearsal’s rooms, etc. The “first nights” in a theatrical season are 18 (9 in Romanian and 9 in Hungarian). The engaged personnel is in number of 190, which of them: the artistic staff engaged by contract are 100 (actors, scene-directors, set-designers, literary secretary, artistic consultant, etc)
