It has become sport to demonize those who do not think exactly as we do. Words like “nazi,” “fascist,” “racist” and “communist” fly with abandon. Where once we prided ourselves on our unity and our collective strength we now celebrate division and hate speech. The effect on our democracy is corrosive. Like acid it eats away at the underpinnings of the world’s last, best hope for liberty and democracy. With each new exchange of vitriol we all pay an incalculable price.
