The Military Academy of Saint-Cyr’s mission is to educate, train and inspire the future French Army’s leaders of character. Founded by Napoleon, renowned as an elite school in leadership, the École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr has given two Presidents of the Republic to France and belongs to the exclusive group of French “Grandes Écoles”. Saint-Cyr provides a three-year intensive education program in the academic, military, ethical and physical domains, preparing young cadets to serve the nation with excellence as officers in the French Army. All ESM cadets graduate with a master's degree in engineering or in management, or even in international relations. They are commissioned as First Lieutenants. Saint-Cyr graduates are devoted to commanding the operational units of the Army and, during their career, to fulfilling increasing executive responsibilities in the regiments and the general staff of French Defence as well as in international military alliances. The ESM Saint-Cyr is available to French citizens who have passed the highly selective entrance examination of the French Grandes Écoles. Moreover dozens of foreign cadets also graduates from Saint-Cyr every year.
