Centered on the belief that critically minded and informed individuals are the foundation of a safe, prosperous, and welcoming communities the Utah Center for Civic Improvement (UCIV) works to strengthen the bonds between Utahns. UCIV was founded by a group of dedicated individuals who want to strengthen Utah's communities. Mission We are dedicated to strengthening the bonds between Utahns by promoting citizenship, democratic values, and civic institutions. Vision Every Utahn deserves to live in an equitable, thriving, and healthy community. Priorities We view our work through the lens of three priority areas. These areas frame our work and provide a clear understanding of who we are and why we are doing the work we do. Our three priority areas are: Community, Democracy, and Social Responsibility. To learn more, click here. History UCIV was created in 2018 because our founders were concerned by record levels of distrust and skepticism of our civic and democratic institutions. We serve as a parent organization for a variety of programs that are designed to strengthen Utah's communities and civic institutions. Our responsibilities as a parent organization include centralizing administrative functions, providing oversight of our programs, coordinating resources among our programs, and acting as employer for all staff. As the parent company, the staff and board of UCIV have a number of strategic questions and business decisions to consider, including the organization’s mission, vision, and values, board structure, staffing, and administration. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that believes decisions shaped by facts, rather than ideology, have the power to improve public policy and practice, strengthen communities, and transform the way that we live our lives. Research reveals what works and what doesn’t. Facts and collaboration create solutions. That’s why we utilize evidence and collaborative processes to solve multi-dimensional problems. We seek to inspire people to take action every day to improve and beautify our communities. We believe that every community can be a clean, safe, and beautiful place to live.
