Västerås Mot Cancern was founded in 2014 after seven best friends were reduced to six the previous year due to cancer. The organization works in order to raise cancer awareness & funds in the swedish city of Västerås for the Swedish Kids Cancer Foundation (Barncancerfonden). Companies who decide to contribute to the fundraising get rewarded with being part of a large local marketing campaign. The organization is collaborating with the towns largest newspaper (VLT), digital media advertising agency (All In) along with the two most well known sports clubs in the city of Västerås (VIK Hockey & VSK Bandy). One of the six co-founders is the hockey celebrity Mikael Backlund, centerman for the NHL club the Calgary Flames.
