The S. S. Huebner Foundation for Insurance Education was established at the University of Pennsylvania in 1940 by insurance industry leaders and scholars. For 80 years, the Huebner Foundation has supported promising doctoral students pursuing careers in insurance and risk management education and has promoted research addressing important policy and business issues related to risk and insurance. In 2012, the Huebner Foundation moved from the Wharton School to the Department of Risk Management and Insurance at Georgia State University where it continues its mission of supporting Risk and Insurance doctoral education and research. Through its doctoral graduates, the S.S. Huebner Foundation significantly impacts risk and insurance education and the industry. An estimated one-third of all collegiate insurance education is provided by Huebner alumni, and they instruct and mentor thousands of students worldwide each year. Our alumni have served within governments as state insurance commissioners and program heads and have played key roles in drafting legislation and testifying before Congress. Their trailblazing research informs important public policy affecting health care financing, insurance guaranty funds and risk-based capital systems, insurance fraud, insurance availability in inner cities, and auto insurance price regulation.
