Richmond Bar Association

www.richmondbar.org

The Bar Association of the City of Richmond, the oldest bar organization in Virginia, continues to expand a great tradition of service to the bench, the bar, and the public in its third century. The Association’s objectives have remained constant since stated by the founders in 1885: to aid in maintaining the honor and dignity of the profession of law, to promote legal science and the administration of justice, and to cultivate social interaction among its members. Through the years, the Richmond Bar has fulfilled those objectives while adjusting to meet the challenges of our rapidly changing profession. The membership of the Association is composed largely of lawyers who practice or are employed in the City of Richmond and the counties of Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover. Although membership is voluntary, most lawyers in the metropolitan area–approximately 2,000 in number–choose to belong. A Board of Directors elected by the members governs the organization. Numerous committees organize and guide its activities. Sections representative of various legal specialties and interests have been established and include the Bankruptcy Section, the Business Law Section, the Corporate Counsel Section, the Environmental & Energy Law Section, the Litigation Section, the Real Estate Section and the Young Lawyers Section.
