The Physicians Advocacy Institute (PAI), a not-for-profit organization, supports physicians through research, education and policy advocacy. PAI was established in 2006 with funds from legal settlements reached in class action, multi-district litigation that physicians and state medical associations filed against major national health insurers. PAI’s mission is to advance fair and transparent payment policies and practices by payers and others in order to sustain the profession of medicine for the benefit of patients. PAI’s Board of Directors are CEOs from medical associations with over 250,000 physician and medical student members. These associations include: California Medical Association, Medical Association of Georgia, Medical Society of the State of New York, Nebraska Medical Association, North Carolina Medical Society, South Carolina Medical Association, Tennessee Medical Association, and Texas Medical Association.
