Ernest J. Vastine, Sr. established Valley Wholesale Foods, Inc. in 1973 with the hopes of supporting his growing family. He started with a small building, a small box truck and very little product. In the beginning he mostly serviced bakeries. Going door-to-door selling sugar, flour and shortening, he would take the customer's order and then deliver it right off the truck. As the years went by, there became more competition. Because Ernie’s competitors had more products to offer, he had to look for new ways to be competitive. Offering more product lines seemed to be the answer to his competition. In the years to come Ernie added more dry foods, canned foods, and frozen foods.
