The mission of Gilda’s Club is to provide a meeting place where adults, teens and children living with cancer, as well as their families and friends, can join with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to their treatment of choice. Gilda’s Club offers support and networking groups, lectures, workshops, and social events in a non-residential, home-like setting. Gilda’s Club is a non-profit, charitable organization where membership is free. Funding is solicited from private individuals, corporations, & foundations. No cancer care plan is complete without emotional, social & practical support, an essential complement to medical care. In Canada, we are fortunate to have leading-edge cancer detection and treatments that result in people being diagnosed earlier and living longer. This also creates an increasing demand to meet the social and emotional needs of people impacted by the disease. This is where Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto is making a difference and why we have been called “the missing link in the cancer care system”. Patrick J. Gilda’s members are given the tools and information they need to help them create their own support plan. By being part of the Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto community, members are able to draw strength and the collective wisdom of people sharing similar life experiences. That’s why Gilda's Club focuses on providing support in as many ways as possible. From traditional support groups (adults, teens and children) facilitated by mental health professionals, to educational sessions with expert speakers, arts-based programs, healthy lifestyle workshops and recreational and social events.
