Background and Legal Status: MAAT was established in 2005 as a non-partisan, non-profit civil society organization, the Foundation is registered at the Ministry of Social Solidarity under the number 3166 of 2008 amended to 7829 of 2010. MAAT is in Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council . MAAT chairs the UN NGO Major Group for Africa (NMGA), represents North Africa Region, and hosts NMGA's Secretariat .Moreover, the Foundation was the Head of National Network of the Euro-Mediterranean Anna Lindh for the Dialogue Between Cultures, as well as being a founder and member of a broad number of local, international and regional networks and coalitions. MAAT adopted a recent strategic framework between 2020-2016, aiming at promoting its presence on the international and regional level, to build effective relations with the UN and international mechanisms to improve human rights on the national and regional levels (Arab and African), as well as the continuation of working on democracy and good governance issues and promoting sustainable development practices. MAAT Vision: A citizen aware of his rights, a homeland based on human rights respect and good governance practices, and a genuine global partnership for peace and sustainable development. MAAT Message: MAAT seeks to employ the human rights approach, and utilize its mechanisms and tools in promoting the values and practices of social peace, development, democracy and good governance on the national level, as well as working via the UN and regional mechanisms and agencies, and in a context of networks and coalitions to advocate the promotion of peace and sustainable development policies and practice, addition to fighting all forms of violence, conflict and absence of justice.
