Young Shire is a local government area in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is located adjacent to the A41 (Olympic Way). The Shire includes the town of Young and the small towns of Maimuru, Milvale, Thuddungra, Bribbaree, Monteagle, Wirrimah, Bendick Murrell and Murringo. Ideally positioned just two hours from Canberra and four from Sydney. Young is a vibrant country town set in a diverse agricultural and horticultural region that offers a friendly rural experience. Young straddles the NSW regions of the South West, Riverina, Central West and Capital Country but it’s as the Hilltops region with neighbour's Harden and Boorowa that it is best know today Hilltops Food and Wine encompass fine cool climate wines, award winning Shiraz and delicious fare for the plate from succulent organic lamb, pork, beef, free range chickens and eggs to diverse grains, olive oils, plums, prunes, peaches, apricots and is perhaps most well known for its cherries. Young is the Cherry Captial of Australia and hosts the annual National Cherry Festival during the first full weekend of December. Young is home to one of the nation’s most precious banners (second only to the Eureka flag) from the 1860's gold rush days, the Roll Up Banner which is housed in the town’s Lambing Flat Folk Museum.
