Hibbs & Walsh Associates Limited is small practice situated in the centre of Saffron Walden, a thriving historic town in North West Essex. The district has outstanding heritage architecture with over 3,800 listed buildings and 36 conservation areas. We principally work within a 20 mile radius encompassing Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. We also accept commissions from further afield; we’ve completed various projects in London, Luxembourg and the Charente area of France. The practice specialises in substantial country properties – often listed buildings of considerable age and value. We take on a wide range of projects, from commissions for new houses for individual clients, to the refurbishment and extension of all types of residential buildings and commercial buildings. With excellent links to London and Cambridge, and good schools, Saffron Walden is a popular location for commuters who appreciate historic buildings but want the benefits of modern living. We handle planning applications on behalf of clients requiring extensions and improvements, ranging from loft conversions to swimming pools and we recommend suitable contractors to carry out the building works to ensure a good standard of workmanship. The practice is led by partners Mike Hibbs and Seb Walsh. We’ve been friends since childhood and went into partnership in 1998, incorporating the practice four years later. We have six members of staff; four on drafting and design and two job-sharing our admin. We undertake contracts from a few thousand pounds to over £2,000,000 in value, often requiring the use of specialised conservation techniques. The practice uses the Caddie system of computer aided design, as well as more traditional drawing techniques when appropriate.
