Sudan is Africa’s third largest country and has the seventeenth highest GDP per capita. From the industrial district of Bahry to the crowded rich agricultural projects of Gedaref, Sudan’s thriving population of almost 40 million people are as richly entrepreneurial as they are culturally diverse. Now is a particularly exciting time for Sudan. After more than two decades in economic isolation, trade sanctions have been universally lifted and the true potential of its business environment, cultural heritage and regional importance can be realized. In an economy that is already 1.5 times the size of Kenya’s, an ambitious generation of entrepreneurs, students and investors is ready to drive forward a new wave of prosperous, sustainable development. A strong private sector is the surest path to stability. The US‐Sudan Business Council (USSBC) is an independent business organization dedicated to facilitating and enabling a strong business, cultural and educational dialogue between Sudan and the United States.
