The world we have created is getting more complex very quickly. People and organisations are more interconnected. Economic, environmental and social outcomes are less and less predictable. There are many systems that are interacting and are producing effects and outcomes that are not able to be controlled well or at all. Opportunities are arising that may not be easily recognisable. We are living in ambiguous times. We are living in exciting times. The traditional ways we have organised ourselves seem to be failing to deliver the outcomes or purposes for which they were created: - Governments and their agencies are struggling to deliver policy and leadership - Corporate businesses have largely become divorced from their original purpose to deliver a benefit to society and have become legal entities whose purpose is to maximise profit only - Not-for-profit and non-government organisations seek to fill gaps left by government and corporate activity but are often isolated and under-resourced - And in each of these sectors, the usual ways of organising people, activity and resources seems all too often to be ineffective in delivering the intended outcomes.
