My initial Dance and Pilates training and my continuous journey of personal development (Psychotherapy, Postural Integration, NLP, Acupuncture, Cranio Sacral Therapy, SomaSensing) has helped me to become a Somatic Movement specialist within the field of The Feldenkrais and Child’Space Method (Feldenkrais for babies). My movement journey began through dance, completing Matric at the National School of the Arts, Johannesburg followed by a Performance Certificate in Dance at the Cape Town University School of Dance (UCT). After a severe dance related knee injury in 1997, I thought my dance career was over. A Pilates rehabilitation program helped me back to mobility and within 8 months of the injury I was able to audition for London School of Contemporary Dance. I experienced the following highlights during my (BA Hons in Contemporary Dance) at The London School of Contemporary Dance (LCDS): 1. Training at Suny Purchase Dance College in New York 2. Choosing an Independent Choreographic Project with Francis Nii Yartey (Artistic Director of the National Dance Company of Ghana) training at the school of performing arts in Accra for 3 months and 3. Introduction to the Feldenkrais Method by Scott Clark who at the time was a professional dancer and Feldenkrais Teacher of the Siobhan Davies Dance Company in London. Integrating the Feldenkrais method in my dance training took my dancing to another level. For the first time in my entire dance career I was injury free. My experience with movement rehabilitation through Pilates led to my training with the Pilates Foundation UK Ltd. After spending 5 years of study in the UK. I returned to South Africa in August 2003. My dance background and Pilates training are grounded in my love for teaching movement and helping others. I opened my own studio (called Beautifulmind Studio) in 2007, in Illovo Johannesburg. I strongly believe in continuing professional education to keep up to date with the latest research in Movement Therapy
