Heartassistance consist of a network of volunteer-first-aiders, who are available and ready to move out in case of cardiac arrest. The Heartassistants are all trained in first-aid and in the use of defibrillators. The majority of the Heartassistants have a health-professional or emergency preparedness background and work on a daily basis, such as firefighters, paramedics, nurses, doctors or similar. Every year, 5,400 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside hospitals. Of them, only 14% survive. We would like to help change that. In short, we want to make a difference and save more lives in cardiac arrest. Therefore, we will establish a nationwide network of trained first-aiders equipped with their own defibrillators. Thus, we can reduce the time that elapses from the person falling over with cardiac arrest to being hit with a defibrillator. Our goal is to increase the survival rate significantly, from the current 14%, as far as more lives are saved, in the event of an acute cardiac arrest.
