FemEng: Empowering Women in Engineering
gufemeng.weebly.comFemEng is a network aimed at linking together women in the School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow. The group has a number of focuses including outreach work with schools, networking events with industry professionals, social activities and international collaborations. FemEng also successfully pioneered ‘FemEng in Rwanda’, the University’s first student-led learning project in collaboration with the University of Rwanda. This initiative brought together women studying STEM at both universities with the common goal of encouraging more high school girls in Rwanda to pursue further education in the field of STEM. FemEng was started as a sub group within the Glasgow University Engineering Society by Ellen Simmons. The group has been strongly supported by Equate Scotland’s Interconnect Network and has gone from strength to strength since. In 2016, FemEng became formally affiliated with the Women’s Engineering Society and have established a fantastic collaborative relationship with the society since.
