The need for modern cancer hospital was the dream of Sri NT Rama Rao, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh who lost his wife to the disease. It is in her memory that he established Smt.Nandamuri Basavataraka Rama Rao Memorial Cancer Foundation (NBTRCF) Nandamuri Basavataraka Ramarao Momorial Cancer Foundation (NBTRCF), India along with several philanthropists, scientists & physicians under the aegis of Indo American Cancer Organization (IACO), USA established the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute at Hyderabad with some of the best Cancer Specialists in India. It was inaugurated on 22nd June 2000 by then Prime Minister of India, Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Professionally run by a Board consisting of representatives from both trusts, the Institute works on inputs of people from different walks of life. BIACH&RI was started with the objective of providing world class cancer treatment at affordable cost to patients and has grown many fold in size with over 500 beds now. It bestows care and treatment on par with the quality of treatment available to everyone at an affordable price to prove that quality treatment and facilities are as much the right of the less privileged as it is the right of those who can afford to go abroad for reliable and modern treatment. The hospitals objective is to serve the need of the community and is run on a not-for-profit basis. Another unique feature of Basavatarakam has been establishing a Center for Alternative Medicine including Naturopathy and Ayurveda treatments with a health club having well equipped gym and aerobics adjoining the hospital premises. The institute gives highest priority to quality treatment and patient safety and is recognized by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Health Care – NABH National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories – NABL Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems – TUV (OHSAS)
