Icelandic Sustainable Fisheries
www.isf.isIcelandic Sustainable Fisheries (ISF) advocates for sustainable fisheries by applying for and maintaining internationally accredited certifications of sustainability for Icelandic fisheries. The standard which ISF measures against is owned and maintained by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). ISF has received certifications of sustainability for 90-95% of landed catch and 98% of exported value of products from Iceland's sustainable fishing grounds. ISF is owned by over 60 Icelandic companies who share the cost of the program and participate in resolving issues and conditions to acguire or remain certifications of sustainable fisheries. More than 170 Icelandic companies have successfully applied for and maintained their certifications as stewards for the Chain of Custody (CoC) which ensures buyers and consumers that their fish is from Iceland's sustainable fishing grounds. The emphasis on certifications and the extensive coverage of certifications is a testament to Icelandic fisheries, to Icelandic authorities who have really attended and cared for the ecosystem in Iceland's sustainable fishing grounds.
