Auckland Light Rail
www.lightrail.co.nzAuckland Light Rail’s vision is broad and ambitious - it’s about much more than transport, it's about planning Auckland's future and improving housing access and quality of life. It’s also the first step of a new rapid transit network. The project is a partnership between Waka Kotahi, Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and Kāinga Ora and will be the largest infrastructure project Aotearoa has ever undertaken. It will start with the 24-kilometre City Centre to Māngere route, an area that will be home to 17% of Auckland’s population growth and 33% of job growth over the next 30 years. It will be the first leg of a larger system that will connect to the north shore and north-west in the future. Featuring a tunnelled portion, up to 18 stations and with services every five minutes, light rail could also create tens of thousands of new jobs. Auckland Light Rail will help us create vibrant, compact centres where people choose to live, work and play within a walkable local community, with the potential for 66,000 new homes along the route by 2051. Light rail is more than a transport project. It’s a step towards a better future for Auckland.
