REACH is one the oldest Iraqi developing organisations. Founded in 1995 by former staff members of Oxfam-UK, REACH was formed in the Kurdistan region of Northern Iraq. REACH’s Head Office is based in Sulaimaniya, Northern Iraq, with two additional project offices in the Kurdistan Region and further two in the so-called ‘disputed areas’ of Kirkuk and Khanaqin. REACH has been implementing numerous Relief and Recovery projects targeting Iraqi IDPs & returnees as well as Syrian and Iranian refugees in the region. Activities include core lifesaving assistance, (Mainly Food Security, Shelter, inc Winterization), Psychosocial Support, vocational trainings, Income generating activities, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation projects , as well as establishing over 80 Community Based Organizations. Since 2012 REACH mainly provides emergency assistance to Syrian refugees and Iraqi IDPs including NFI, FI and H&H kits supported by UNHCR, DKH, Christian Aid, and other donors. As the crisis protracts, REACH is currently working towards more sustainable solutions for the displaced, many of which have now dwelled in the area for several years. Such include cash based assistance and sustainable livelihood interventions. REACH is mainly targeting non-camp refugees and IDPs in the safe areas of Northern Iraq.
