UCSF School of Nursing HIV Minor

nursing.ucsf.edu

This page is for UCSF School of Nursing HIV Minor students, alumni, faculty, and others interested in HIV primary care. The HIV Minor consists of 6 credits typically taken during the second year of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care or Family Nurse Practitioner programs, with an optional HIV-focused clinical rotation. HIV content is integrated into the primary care curricula for AGNP and FNP programs; however, additional HIV offerings provide deeper coursework and HIV-focused clinical experiences to students with a specialized interest in caring for patients living with HIV. The HIV Minor includes course content on HIV prevention, pathophysiology, policy and systems of care, pharmacology, healthcare maintenance, clinical management, and sociocultural issues. Upon completion of the HIV Minor, graduates receive a certificate stating their specialization in HIV primary care. The HIV courses are open to any UCSF graduate nursing student as electives. Students do not have to take all of the courses unless working toward the minor.
