Founded in 1997, Assisi Animal Sanctuary is an independent animal welfare charity, providing shelter for hundreds of unwanted and stray animals throughout Northern Ireland. Each year Assisi rescues over 2,000 animals. Before re-homing all animals are neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and de-flead. Assisi operates a strict rehoming criteria to ensure our rescue animals find the best possible home. Assisi is committed to providing an excellent quality of life for our animals no matter what their age or state of health. The Sanctuary operates a ‘No Kill Policy’ which means that euthanasia is carried out only in exceptional circumstances, i.e, terminal illness causing suffering or severe behavioural problems which put at risk staff, volunteers or other residents. This can only be assessed and administered by a professional vet in consultation with the CEO and the chairperson of the Board.
