Consent Culture Initiative
www.consentcultureinitiative.comConsent Culture Initiative is a for-profit charitable entity promoting consent culture through education and policy development for festivals, patrons, venues, and creative communities. Our goal is to foster a consent culture in order to prevent sexual violence through norm change, community generation, infrastructure development, violence response teams, education and regional representation. Founded for the national fire-spinning festival community by Gina McGrath in 2016, Consent Culture Initiative quickly expanded to other creative and sub-culture communities while supporting small business owners and organizations to create a culture of consent for their staff. We have three operating principles: solution-oriented harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and decentralized knowledge. Operating within this framework has allowed us to stay curious and coachable about consent education while empowering us to reconsider how this work is done, to create another option for survivors, harm-doers, and allys. Through our network, we have created successful, accessible, and relevant peer-reviewed educational materials that help people to move through the world in less harmful, more considerate, and compassionate ways. We are best known for our report intake and information delivery system for a national festival circuit and creative communities paired with our event Pillar Programming, in operation since 2016. Pillar programming is our peer-support personnel training program and network which allows for general attendees to support individuals in times of emotional disturbance due to a consent violation. We are adamant about safety being a TOP priority for community creators and management and we understand the challenges faced when attempting to prioritize safety, which is why we actively educate all members of communities, not just the people at the top.
