VectorGen was formed as a funding entity for research grants in support of our quest to design an in vivo delivery system for HIV cure genetics. We're going in a completely different direction from the 3rd and 4th generation delivery vectors currently in use. The VectorGen vector is designed to be replication-competent, as well as auto-inhibiting, with the auto-inhibition conditioned on the eradication of the target virus. The VectorGen delivery system makes use of an intricate regulatory mechanism to turn on the cure genetics in the presence of infectious HIV, and turn off the vector's own replication once the targeted virus is neutralized. Importantly, the delivery vector is also a platform technology: in other words, the same delivery system might be applied to deliver curative genetics for other pathologies.
