The core focus of the company is to provide high quality, independent, third-party certification services to government and military organizations and the private sector contractors that serve these entities. IAS is a nonprofit, public-benefit corporation that has been providing accreditation services since 1975. It is a member of Asia-Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC), International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), International Accreditation Forum (IAF), and the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (PAC). The scope of IAS's membership in the IAF includes management system certification.
