Founded by a group of B.Y.U. undergraduates in 2018, Girls Lobby teaches high school girls how to take power and give back by lobbying their state legislature. We deliver a 10-week curriculum on lobbying via Zoom, an online video chat software, in accordance with the state legislative session. The curriculum covers topics including lobbying, negotiating, storytelling, writing op-eds, testifying at town hall meetings, and speaking at press conferences. Lessons feature guest experts on certain advocacy issues. The girls are split into issue-based cohorts led by college-aged women, known as cohort facilitators, who teach the curriculum and mentor the girls. We partner with local NGOs which provide girls with issue-based legislative priorities to focus their lobbying efforts in the legislative season. Through these partnerships, we aim to provide girls with access to local civic engagement pipelines.
