Centre for Tobacco Control in Africa
www.ctc-africa.orgMakerere University School of Public Health’s Centre for Tobacco Control in Africa (CTCA) was established in 2011 by the World Health Organization (WHO) to support governments in African countries to develop tobacco control policy and legislation as well as build and sustain institutional capacity for tobacco control. This is done through offering technical, institutional and cross sector support for tobacco control at national and regional levels. The Centre which is in its 2nd phase funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through the African Capacity Building Foundation envisions four outcomes including; Adoption and implementing policies for farmers transitioning from tobacco farming to alternatives, Increased adoption of policies and laws compliant with FCTC, Increased implementation/enforcement officers of policies and laws compliant with FCTC and development and implementation of national tobacco control programs.
