Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) is responsible for preventing disease and improving the health of people in Tāmaki Makaurau. Our staff investigate infectious disease notifications and advise health professionals, schools and preschools and the public on limiting any spread. We protect the public from health hazards in drinking and recreational water, in our air, in our communities and at our borders. We work to improve our city with other organisations like Council, so our people are able to eat better, keep physically active and avoid harm from alcohol and tobacco. We are involved in alcohol licensing, smokefree environments and support for healthy workplaces and early childhood education centres. ARPHS leads the public health response during emergencies in the region, and screens refugees for illness at the Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre.
