Diversity Program Consortium — Funded by the National Institutes of Health
www.nigms.nih.govThe NIH recognizes the need to diversify the scientific workforce by the enhancing the participation of individuals from groups identified as nationally underrepresented in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral and social sciences research workforce. Scientists and trainees from different backgrounds bring a variety of perspectives, creativity, and individual enterprise to address complex scientific problems. A diverse NIH-supported scientific workforce will also improve global competitiveness, contribute to robust learning environments, and enhance public trust. The Diversity Program Consortium (DPC) consists of three integrated initiatives: Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD), the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) and the Coordination and Evaluation Center (CEC). As a whole, the DPC strives to develop, implement, assess and disseminate innovative, effective approaches to research training and mentoring. Interventions take place at three levels: 1) engaging, training and mentoring students 2) enhancing faculty development, and 3) strengthening institutional research training infrastructure. This profile is managed by the DPC’s Coordination and Evaluation Center (CEC), Award #2U54GM119024.
