I am an entrepreneurship educator and connector with 25 years of economic development experience. I teach adults and teens about entrepreneurship through hands-on experiences. It has an opportunity canvas structure that culminates in a pitch to an audience that includes outside resource partners. The homework pushes students outside their comfort zones to talk to and learn more about people who might be their ideal customer. I am a partner in a nonprofit that is melding university and high school entrepreneurship expertise into a hands-on honors-level course rolling out in public schools in North Carolina. A private school in Ohio is reviewing it too. Starting in May 2020, I will be launching a Community Reinvention Workshop Series. Just in time for the economic emergency many places are in! Please let me know what you think. This is a strategy workshop for community teams of leaders and small business owners moving quickly to reorient their businesses during the pandemic. The workshop meets online for 2 hours every week for 4 weeks. During the sessions we will cover community assessment, entrepreneur traits and mapping, cross-organizational teaming, models worth copying, and action planning. The fourth and final class is 3 hours of team presentations and feedback from resource providers from each team’s region. Each team goes home with an action plan for local business support in 2020.
