The Marsh Charitable Trust was founded in 1981, as the Marsh Christian Trust, with the sum of £75,000 by its current Chairman, Mr Brian Marsh OBE. His aim was to create a sustainable way to give something back to society, by supporting the organisations and people who are making a difference, as best he could. Marsh Charitable Trust is the operating name of Marsh Christian Trust (Charity Number: 284470) From the outset the Trust has aimed to create long-standing relationships with the organisations it supports and partners through both its principal areas of work; the Grants Programme and the Awards Scheme. The Trust supports around 350 charities every year through the Grants Programme and gives around 80 different Awards to individuals and groups from across the charity sector, who make a difference to a cause that they believe in. The Trust’s activities are financed by income derived from its investment portfolio and it does not accept any public donations. In September 2021, the MCT changed its public facing name to the Marsh Charitable Trust. As we celebrated the Trust’s 40th anniversary in 2021, it was decided that this is a perfect time to reflect on the public-facing name of the MCT and our image. After consultation with the Trustees and our Award partners, we are pleased to announce that the MCT will now be publicly known as the ‘Marsh Charitable Trust’. The MCT will maintain the same principles that we have always followed, and we feel this new name will present a more inclusive image for the Trust, reflective of the inclusive policies that we have always followed.
