OUT Maine

www.outmaine.org

OUT Maine supports and empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning young people, under the age of 22, and their allies in rural Maine. We support young people who may feel isolated and alienated as they struggle to understand and accept their sexuality. Our main purpose is to assure them that they are not alone in their struggle. Support has a range of forms, from a safe space at regular OUT Maine meetings, where young people can be themselves and talk about the issues confronting them in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding, to help and guide when young people's emerging identities bring them into conflict with their parents, schools or communities. We educate about the needs of queer youth in such areas as health, civil rights, political issues/action, queer history and culture. We conduct outreach to young people and adults in the communities of our region, to make OUT's services known to those who need them; to convey information and understanding of LGBT life to the communities in which we all live; and to create and sustain connections with other LGBT groups and organizations in Maine.
