New Amigos is a language app and board game that turns language learning into a social and fun process where you interact with other players and learn together. When two people want to learn each other’s language, there is an enormous potential for exchanging language skills! The app allows this to happen in a structured and fun way, thus leading you and your playing partner through memorizing words, phrases, grammatical structures, and pronunciation, always with the support of your native speaker playing partner. You can also play with someone learning the same language as you with the support of video files of a pre-recorded native speaker. In 2016 New Amigos was awarded the European Language Label for its ability to create balanced relationships and mutual understanding, both crucial elements for good integration. In 2021 New Amigos celebrated 15 years of being at the center of an international German-Russian school tournament where youths use the board game to compete in language skills. In 2006 the board game was nominated for Game of The Year in the Netherlands, competing alongside other entertainment games. In 2002 we established a network of language cafés in 19 major European cities where foreigners and locals sit together to play the board game and learn language from each other and make new friends! The game is widely used in schools, libraries, and cafés for informal language learning and integration, as a tournament, and in private homes. In Germany the name of the board game is New Amici. It has three levels and takes you from zero to fluent conversation (EU evaluation 0-B1).
