Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking

www.bigfish.org.za

Multi-award winning BIG FISH SCHOOL OF DIGITAL FILMMAKING offers intensive film and TV industry training. Our objectives are to devise and implement cutting edge training interventions that address skills shortages and give talented young people (many of whom are marginalized by economics, ethnicity, gender or geography) much needed training and employment in the sector. BIG FISH aims to produce socially responsible, progressive filmmakers keen to transform society and contribute to the development of an indigenous filmmaking culture. Since its inception in 2003 as the film and TV unit at Monash University South Africa, BIG FISH has achieved an impressive 85% employment rate for former students. The remaining 15% are working on their own productions, some through Little Pond - a production trust established by BIG FISH for former students. BIG FISH students enjoy highly successful careers both in South Africa and on the continent, which is a source of pride for us and is the greatest return on investment we could ask for. We have been well recognised for our ground-breaking initiatives in post-secondary and tertiary education within our industry. You might think that training and skills development costs are high, we however argue that lack of skills and unemployment are incalculable.
