Beachcleanup Ghana is a cleantech start-up working with various coastal metropolitan district assemblies (MDAs) in Ghana to keep it's beaches and waterbodies clean. Ghana’s poor waste management structures means most of the waste end up accruing at landfills, sewage pathways, waterbodies, and beaches. For uncollected plastics, the rate of leakage into the ocean is 31% , Rivers have been identified as a major pathway for plastic pollution entering the oceans (National Geographic, June 2018). The economic effects on tourism, fisheries, and healthcare are considerable. Our solution is a sustainable and environmentally friendly initiative to deal with climate change caused by human activity. This is in support of Ghana’s National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (NCCAS), We form partnerships with various municipality and district assemblies to run a cleaning and maintenance program. The waste recovered from cleaning is segregated and recycled creating value through circular economy.
