UNA-NCA works with the decision-makers at the United Nations and of the US as an incubator for new ideas on such issues as conflict resolution, nuclear non-proliferation, global health, and sustainable development to build public support for constructive US leadership in a more effective United Nations. Advocacy We meet with members of Congress and their staff to push for the ratification of essential treaties and resolutions. Our advocacy efforts focus on increasing government support for peacekeeping and assistance related to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Education Established in 2003, Global Classrooms® DC (GCDC) is the flagship education program of the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA). Through original global education curriculum and Model UN mini-simulations, GCDC helps prepare globally aware citizens, educates students grades 5-12 on international issues and the work of the United Nations, while strengthening key skills including public speaking, negotiation, and writing. Networking Committee meetings, happy hour socials, and local events are just a small sample of how UNA-NCA brings together Washington, DC residents with shared interests and goals. Our Young Professionals (UNA-NCA YP) program is a great place to gain career experience and connect with others in the industry. Outreach We provide workshops, conferences, and seminars on the United Nations and related foreign policy issues. Our e-newsletter, the UN Express, sends you exclusive and advanced email notifications of important international affairs events sponsored by UNA-NCA.
