Play it On is a not for profit social enterprise that receives unwanted new and used sports gear and sports clothing. The profits from sales assist kids from struggling families to pay for their sporting club fees. Theresa Brown, the Founder was concerned about the number of kids that miss out on playing organised sport because their families can’t afford it. In some areas around half the number of kids play compared to others. I found this out while working at Playford Council managing the grants program where I was unable to assist many struggling families who just wanted to see their kids happy playing the sport of their choice. That was 5 years ago and since then she has left the Council but couldn’t stop thinking about it especially knowing how much sport means for her own children. We know that organised sport is great for kids health and social skills and some recent research found that for 10-12 year olds playing sport can improve mental health and reduce suicide in teenagers. Play it On collects unwanted gear through collection boxes at businesses, recreation centres, sporting clubs and libraries. Contact us if you would like to be a donation point.
