ATLAS & I is a unique gift company that specialises in creating bespoke artworks and leather products using antique maps. Our ever growing product range consists of artworks featuring laser cut silhouettes laid over reproductions of antique maps as well as an extensive collection of handmade luxury leather accessories printed with personalised antique map locations. Founded in 2011 by designer Sophie Kirkpatrick - who was struggling to find the perfect Christmas presents for her friends and family - came up with the idea of creating unique gifts by cutting up old maps. Initially the gifts were created by hand cutting silhouettes of animals and pets from antique maps using old bits of wallpaper, cards and wrapping paper mounted in old picture frames. Through word of mouth, orders started flooding in for bespoke pieces. Whether it’s a silhouette of Poppy the bull dog chasing the ducks with a map of the village in the background or the outline of Ed the amateur jockey winning his first race over a 1930’s map of Cheltenham Race Course, every picture tells a unique story and the use of antique maps over bespoke locations makes every commission different. Due to the number of orders that she now receives, Sophie has to laser cut the outlines to achieve the accuracy and detail that she requires. Today the range has expanded to include bespoke leather notebooks, diaries, photo albums, i-pad covers and passport holders to name but a few, all printed with personalised antique maps. Sophie deliberately sources all of her valued suppliers locally, suppliers who are prepared to print very small runs or one off pieces to maintain the essence of the business: conceived, designed and created to order.
