Founded in 1982, Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony (Detroit MYS) is one of the oldest youth symphonies in Michigan. The organization is recognized for the outstanding accomplishments of its four student orchestras, a commitment to excellence, and leadership in music education. Detroit MYS encourages the talent and artistic development of student members from grades two through twelve. The orchestral ensemble experience is designed to complement the student's school music program, providing musical enrichment and performance opportunities to around 200 young people hailing from nearly 50 communities across the Detroit metropolitan area.
