Tutors work with learners in public locations such as libraries, churches, and Adult Basic Education classrooms.Most popular are the free drop-in tutoring sites offered in Champaign, Urbana, and the surrounding area each week: Mondays 9:30–11:30am @ the Urbana Free Library Wednesdays 12:30–2:30pm @ Parkland College room C134 Thursdays 6–8pm @ the Wesley Food Pantry, Green & Goodwin, Urbana (including childcare)* Fridays 9:30–11:30am @ the Champaign Public Library *The Project READ tutoring site at the Wesley Food Pantry on Thursday evenings provides childcare facilities and trained childcare staff! Parents who would like childcare MUST request this at least 2 days IN ADVANCE. Parents must sign up each week. The sign-up will close when all childcare slots are full. Call or email Project READ at 217/353-2662 or ProjectREAD@parkland.edu if you have questions about childcare or tutoring services. Become a Project READ Volunteer Tutor! Volunteers are needed throughout the Parkland College district. All Project READ tutors complete a minimum of 12 hours of formal training to earn certification in Adult Learning. Training for new tutors is a combination of online lessons through the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, face-to-face training, and classroom observation.
