The Humanitarian Engineering Research and Design Studio is a student-led makerspace at Clemson University. The design studio was developed by Clemson Engineers for Developing Countries and works daily to pursue innovative engineering solutions for resource constrained communities. Our Mission: The Humanitarian Engineering Research and Design Studio is a student-led makerspace developed to use experiential learning in a simulated resource constrained environment to pioneer sustainable engineering solutions for under served communities. Core Values: Innovation The Humanitarian Engineering Research and Design Studio aims to promote and support innovation and innovative design in solving problems prevalent in resource constrained communities. Collaboration Collaboration is recognized as an essential element in creating successful and sustainable solutions for the developing world. The Humanitarian Engineering Research and Design Studio promotes collaboration on all projects by developing an environment that stimulates contributions from students across all disciplines, experience levels, and academic standings. Problem Solving The Humanitarian Engineering Research and Design Studio strives to promote a problem solving environment which promotes students to develop intelligent and resourceful solutions to common problems seen in the developing world. Experiential Learning While classroom learning allows students to gain theoretical knowledge, the Humanitarian Engineering Research and Design Studio aims to develop student growth through experiential learning. The Humanitarian Engineering Research and Design Studio promotes experiential learning within the maker space by creating an environment meant to utilize hands on learning and real world problem solving as catalysts for student learning.
