EnCare
www.en-care.comCognitive Decline is among the most significant social, health and economic crises of the 21st century according to the Alzheimer World Report published in 2011. It was estimated that 35.6 million people lived with dementia worldwide in 2010, with numbers expected to almost double every 20 years, to 65.7 million in 2030 and 115.4 million in 2050. Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias are a global health challenge and are exceptional in size, costs and impact. The World Alzheimer Report 2010 looked at the economic cost of dementia: in 2010 this was US$604 billion, the equivalent of 1% of the global gross domestic product (World Alzheimer Report, 2010). The World Alzheimer Report 2011 showed that there are interventions that are effective in the early stages of dementia, some of which may be more effective when started earlier, and that there is a strong economic argument in favor of earlier diagnosis and timely intervention. For this reason, EnCare GmbH develops a cognitive decline test, known as EnCare Diagnostics, that incorporates a cogno-statistical methodology, as an alternative interface that can be used routinely in various environments to provide an easy-to-use interface for people with cognitive decline. This would allow health care to measure the potential detection of the early stages of Cognitive Decline in a cost effective manner that is easily applied using low-cost touch screen devices. This easy-to-use test, performed through the selection of words and colors, is cost effective, and is an easily repeatable test which is proposed to be capable of indicating cognitive decline.
