Koolulam is a social-musical initiative aimed at strengthening the fabric of society. The project centers around mass singing events in which large groups of non-professionals come together to form a collaborative musical creation. Koolulam brings together people from all walks of life to do one thing: stop everything for a few hours and just sing – together. At Koolulam, the audience is the artist. By means of a collaborative musical experience, participants go through a creative process weaved with a sense of togetherness and belonging seldom reached in our daily lives. The coming together, cooperation, sense of creation and sheer power of sound all result in an overwhelmingly uplifting and empowering experience. Participants enter as thousands of unique individuals and come out – while still unique – as one collective, bearing a clear and tangible common thread: a great human ensemble, with a shared reality. The collective creation process, as well as its outcome, evoke a powerful sense of hope regarding the feasibility of positive human interaction and the immense potential of human cooperation.
