The Africa Centre
www.africacentre.netThe Africa Centre was established in 2005 as an international creative centre and social innovator based in Cape Town, South Africa. It is both a physical entity and an ongoing philosophical journey, which provides a platform for exploring contemporary Pan-African cultural practice and knowledge creation as a catalyst for social change. The vision of the Africa Centre is brought to life with a number of projects that either play out through the calendar year, or online. Current projects include: * Artists in Residency Programme - residency opportunities to African artists, across disciplines, who are highly engaged with social issues and their art forms. * Badilisha Poetry X-Change - A poetry podcast platform exclusively dedicated to the exposure and archive of l voices from Africa and its Diaspora. * Everyday African Urbanism - a research and intervention laboratory which seeks to both understand and disrupt some of south africa’s most pressing social challenges. Its current two initiatives focus on food security and primary school education . * Talking Heads - sharing the ideas, visions and manifestations of extraordinary people living in Africa. * Infecting the City - an annual public arts festival that stages and exhibits thought-provoking works in the communal spaces of Cape Town. * WikiAfrica - an international collaboration that redresses the critical imbalance of factual information about Africa on Wikipedia.
