Girls Write Nashville

Girls Write Nashville is a music and production mentorship program and creative community for middle and high school girls in Davidson County, TN. Started as a one-time community project funded by a $2,800 micro-grant from the Metro Arts THRIVE program in 2017, Girls Write Nashville has quickly grown from a grassroots start-up into a nationally recognized music education nonprofit, having been featured on NBC's Today Show, USA Today, and American Songwriter Magazine. The organization currently serves over 50 participants in six different programs. In Girls Write Nashville, participants are guided by local professional artists through the journey of creating an original artistic work. Writers support and inspire each other in creative peer groups called Writers Guilds, and then together bravely share those songs with the world on an annual compilation album, each participant having produced one of their songs either in a local recording studio or with one of our specially designed mobile recording rigs. By focusing on community-building, authenticity, and the vulnerability of creative risk-taking, Girls Write Nashville participants not only receive a world-class music and songwriting education but build the confidence, leadership, and social-emotional skills needed to truly thrive as human beings in any arena. Girls Write Nashville consists of and is led by female artists, including co-founders Georgia English and Jen Starsinic who are critically acclaimed musicians, expert educators with over 20 years combined experience, Berklee College of Music graduates, and former teen girls in need of an empowering creative outlet. Committed to a culture of inclusivity and accessibility, Girls Write Nashville is free to participants.
